Celebrating my birthday with Tara Strong and my Voicelings Community!
I gotta admit, with Meta getting creepier and creepier by the day with the latest techno-fascist takeover, the things I used to look forward to have all but faded away. I think only a handful of my people usually see my posts and typically every year on my birthday - I used to get at least a hundred Happy Birthdays! 🎂🎉🥳 I really, truly looked forward to it.
This year, I got a couple of wishes on the day of and lot of “belated birthday” wishes (appreciated BTW!) But, I truly think the algorithm is trying to divide us! 😫 To be fair, I HAVE clamped down on the settings because of random outer trolls on the interwebs popping in and acting the fool - so myself and my wall are less available these days. Too much “data harvesting” going on for my taste...
One of the biggest reasons I don’t drop Meta altogether is my beloved Groups! One in particular, Tara Strong’s VOICELINGS FB Group, has been giving me life. When I was earning my MBA, one of the biggest things I learned is that the FOUNDER of an organization sets the culture. And no matter how much you try to change it, how many ~new~ CEO’s you hire, the culture of an organization is stamped into it’s DNA by it’s Founder.
This is why Tara’s group is MAGICAL. 🦄 The members of our group are kind, encouraging, and it feels like one of the last wonderful places left on the internet. It’s because Tara herself IS Magic. She exudes the kind of positive energy that gives trolls the boot and invites the salt of the Earth. She’s authentically supporting, fun, generous, and open.
She introduces us to her friends in the industry - and a SURPRISE friend joined us on the AMA she held on my birthday (it just happened to coincide). The illustrious Butch Hartman (creator of The Fairly Odd Parents, among many other credits) joined us as a surprise guest and was also generous with his knowledge of what producers and show creators desire in a Voice Talent. No B.S. detected! Our guests tell us how it REALLY is… competitive, clogged with amazing talent, difficult to break through.
However, they always leave us encouraged and with some keys to the Kingdom. Tips on how to LEVEL UP and get noticed. And, I really appreciate that. I burned the bridges down on my lucrative Engineering career to pursue Voice Acting full time in my tender 40’s, when I was a new business owner and a new mom.
The Voicelings sang me Happy Birthday and it was a JOYFUL NOISE indeed!! 💜 We danced, we laughed, we threw inhibition into the wind! And I appreciate the support and the love so much. We workout together, we celebrate magic together, we do the hard work of believing in ourselves and each other.
